The Zigbee controller connects your server to the smart home devices using a low-power wireless IEEE 802.15 Zigbee communication protocol. Zigbee is a well-established smart home communication standard and has a wide variety of devices available. Zigbee is not connected to the internet, which substantially reduces the security risks compared to WiFi devices. Additionally, Zigbee is a mesh network with devices acting as routers, eliminating the need for additional extenders needed by WiFi.
